Overview

Boomzai is a startup designed to facilitate innovative solutions to global problems by hosting incentive competitions. Large organizations (such as The World Bank or the Department of Energy) can host challenges on Boomzai as a cost-effective way to generate new solutions. Innovators around the globe can compete for the best solution and earn prize money. Our initial research helped us define our core user types.

Our solution diverts from existing platforms for incentive competitions by allowing users to customize the way they browse for challenges and by giving them the ability to find other innovators to assemble a virtual team. Not only does this team-building encourage more people to compete, it can lead to more innovative ideas when people from diverse cultures collaborate.

Considering the target audience and the need for user-relevant content, this design took on the characteristics of a social feed. In my team, I pushed and developed the social feed design, making sure to fully consider the needs of the users. The screen where users browse for competitions gets inspiration from Pinterest. The larger blocks represent featured challenges or content that Booomzai determines is a good fit for the user. Each individual card for each challenge can be selected for more information without the user taken to another page. This allows for easier browsing.

Once a team is assembled, they'll work together using the Boomzai team dashboard. We learned that most people have productivity and team collaboration tools they already use and love. Rather than force users to adapt to the Boomzai internal tools, the dashboard allows users to add 'widgets' of different tools such as Google Drive, Slack, and Skype.
